The glamorous parrots: Amazon Parrots

Amazon parrots are the parrots out of the movies. They originate from Central and South America in regions of lush tropical trees and surroundings. Amazon parrots are sized at about a foot long and a pound heavy. Their wingspan measures about 18 inches on average and have colorful markings on the underside of their wings. These birds are predominately green with colorful markings on their heads, tails, and bellies. Because of their preferred home in the tropical canopies, the color of Amazon parrots serve as perfect camaflouge.

What I meant by the Amazon parrots being the parrots from movies is exactly that. Most parrots seen pictured in movies are predominately green with colorful heads and tails, just like the Amazon parrot. Amazon parrots are also great mimickers of human voices and can be considered the opposite of shy. This is why most parrots used on movie sets and seen pictured in cartoons are Amazon parrots. Their colorful appearance and personality make for great pets.

When purchasing an Amazon parrot, make sure you also purchase a large cage because Amazon parrots tend to be very active and if they feel cramped, they won't be able to excersize and will become susceptable to obesity. As long as you give it plenty of room to move and practice the proper diet for your bird, Amazon parrots are easy to care for and keep themselves busy most of the day. This makes for easy maintenance and a great candidate for a pet.
